Emergency & Oil Spill Response Training

The ultimate effectiveness of any spill response depends not only on the existence of adequate plans and equipment but also on the availability of trained response personnel.

SEER Associates' training can help ensure that clients maintain a body of staff skilled in the various functions of emergency and spill response and who are capable of working together as an Incident Management Team.

SEER Associates Training Approach

SEER Associates can present a number of integrated courses and these can be modified for client needs. Courses can also be developed to suite client's specific needs.

SEER Associates training comprise a comprehensive suite that encompasses all aspects of OSR including exercises and drills. Trainees are provided with handbooks, field guides and other support materials designed to support them in spill response and future training.

SEER Associates believes that good training alone will not guarantee a good response and so a regular programme of training, exercises and drills is recommended. SEER can provide these or provide clients with materials to enable 'in-house' ongoing training.

All course materials are prepared by personnel with extensive oil spill response experience as well as formal educational qualifications. Courses are fully competency based.

SEER Associates Trainers

All instructors are experienced professionals with extensive experience in their field of instruction, and in courses presentation. Our trainers teach from experience and illustrate the courses with real case studies, photographs and video.

Available Courses

A number of courses are available (see Table below). As noted above. these can be modified to meet the specific needs of clients.

Two types of training are available:

  • Vocational training (V) These courses are focussed on providing participants with the skills and knowledge needed to undertake a particular oil spill response function, role, job or task. They focus on providing practical instruction and contain exercises and drills. Supplied materials include by response tools such as protocols, checklists and forms. All vocational training is competency based (see below).
  • Familiarisation (or Awareness level) training (F) which is focussed on providing information rather than skills. This information is aimed at providing a broad understanding of oil spills response, spill fate and effects, relevant regulations and international conventions.
  • Basic level training (B) which does not require any prior learning or training. This training does not train participants to a high level but may still be classed as 'vocational' if it is focussed on relatively simple functions.

Two levels of training are available:

· Advanced level training (A) which aims to transfer a high level of skill and knowledge and usually requires some prior knowledge, experience or existing applicable skills.

Available courses are listed in the table below.
